Noblesse oblige is a French phrase meaning "privilege carries responsibility." While its origins are tied to social class, I understand it as a commitment to using whatever gifts, opportunities, and education I've been given in service of others. My life has been shaped by generous teachers, mentors, churches, family, and communities who believed in me long before I believed in myself. I don't see those gifts as something to hold onto. I see them as something to share. Because of that, I feel a responsibility to give those gifts away. Whether through teaching, community projects, or creating work for churches and organizations, I hope to use what I've been given to create beauty, strengthen communities, and help others discover their own creativity.
